Welcome to Year 1 – Oak Class
Class Teacher: Miss McLean
My passion for teaching was sparked whilst I was doing my Sociology degree at Cardiff University. It taught me to appreciate the ongoing impact of childhood experiences and to better understand the overall complexity of children’s social worlds. After working as a graduate Teaching Assistant for a year, I went on to complete my PGCE at Exeter University. I was then lucky enough to be appointed as the Year 1 teacher at Redhills for my first year! I am passionate about Key Stage 1 and EYFS as I believe that putting down solid building blocks early in a child’s journey through education helps to ignite a life-long passion for learning. My specialism is in English and I particularly love teaching phonics. I love to incorporate role-play and theatre into the curriculum as this has been a personal passion of mine from a young age. When I’m not teaching, I love to sing, spend time with my nephew and I can never say no to a day at the beach!
